Pre-launch draft. ReadyForOath is not on the App Store yet. This page takes effect when the app launches.
ReadyForOath Privacy Policy
Effective date: when the app launches (not yet available) · Last updated: 2026-10-14 Who we are: ReadyForOath is a U.S. citizenship-test study app published by ReadyForOath ("we"). Contact: support@readyforoath.app.
ReadyForOath is not affiliated with USCIS or any government agency, and it is not legal advice.
The short version
- Your study data stays on your phone. Your progress, ZIP code, filing date, interview date and settings are stored only on your device. We never receive them.
- No ads, no trackers, no analytics, and we never sell or share your data.
- If you buy a plan, Apple and RevenueCat process the purchase (details below).
- Voice answers: your iPhone turns speech into text on the device when it can. If it can't, we ask you first before your answer audio goes to Apple. You can type your answers instead.
- Erase everything anytime: Settings → Erase all my data.
What is stored on your device (not sent to us)
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| Study progress (flashcard schedule, practice and interview results) | To plan your reviews and show your readiness |
| ZIP code | To show the officials for your area (the list of officials is downloaded to your phone; your ZIP is never sent) |
| N-400 filing date, interview date | To pick your test version and build your study plan |
| Language, text size, officer style, privacy choices | Your settings |
We can't see, access, or recover this data. Deleting the app or using Erase all my data removes it.
What leaves your device, and who handles it
Purchases (only if you buy a plan).
- Apple processes payments; we never see your card or Apple ID.
- We use RevenueCat to confirm what you've purchased. RevenueCat receives a random, anonymous app ID and your purchase history (product, date, price, store country). It is not linked to your name or email.
- RevenueCat acts as our service provider and may not use this data for anything else. See RevenueCat's privacy policy.
Speech recognition (only in the mock interview, only if you answer out loud).
- On iPhones that support it, speech is transcribed on the device.
- On devices that don't, your answer audio is sent to Apple for transcription, only after you allow it. Apple handles this under Apple's privacy policy.
- We do not receive or store the audio.
- You can change this anytime in Settings → Voice answers via Apple.
AI answer checking (future, optional, off by default).
- If we add AI checking of spoken answers, it will be opt-in. We will ask you first, and explain what is sent: the question, the accepted answers and the text of your answer. Nothing else is sent (no ZIP, dates, language or device ID).
- The answer would go to our server and to our AI provider (Anthropic) for grading only. It is not kept after grading and not used to train AI models.
- This policy will be updated before that feature exists.
Downloading official lists. The app may download the current list of officials and study content from our server. That request contains no personal information about you.
What we don't do
- No advertising, no ad networks, no tracking across apps or websites, no data brokers.
- No sale or "sharing" of personal information, as those terms are defined in California and other state privacy laws.
- No accounts, so there is no profile about you on our servers.
Sensitive information
Using a citizenship-test app could suggest something about your immigration status, which many state laws treat as sensitive data. That is why your study data never leaves your phone, and why anything optional that does leave it requires your explicit opt-in first.
Your choices and rights
- Delete your data: Settings → Erase all my data, or delete the app.
- Purchase records: email support@readyforoath.app with the Support ID shown in Settings, and we will delete your RevenueCat customer record. Apple keeps its own purchase records under its own policy.
- State privacy rights (California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas and others): you can ask us what personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it. Because we hold almost nothing, at most a RevenueCat purchase record, we answer within 45 days and won't discriminate against you for asking. Email support@readyforoath.app.
- Do Not Track: the app doesn't track you, so there is nothing for a Do Not Track signal to turn off. We treat every user as if Do Not Track were on.
Children
ReadyForOath is for adults preparing for U.S. naturalization. It is not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their personal information. Where a state law requires it, the App Store's age signals and parental-consent tools apply to purchases.
Security and retention
- On-device data is protected by your phone's security; consider a passcode.
- Purchase records are kept by RevenueCat for as long as needed to provide your purchase, or until you ask us to delete them.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date above and show a notice in the app before any change that affects what leaves your device.
